Las Cumbres Community Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible.

Based in Española and accepts students throughout the region. Conjunto is a model therapeutic preschool program that forms a major part of Las Cumbres’ integrative early intervention strategy. The program supports all areas of development in an integrated curriculum, with a particular emphasis on social, emotional, and adaptive behavior.  All activities support cognitive functioning; fine and gross motor skills; and speech and language acquisition.  It is widely regarded as a cutting-edge educational initiative for at-risk children at the pre-kindergarten level, with both national and state certification/accreditation.

Conjunto is highly innovative in its blend of students with different capabilities: approximately one third have developmental disabilities or delays; one third have emotional or psychological special needs; and one third can be considered “mainstream.” This integrated enrollment has multi-layered and far-ranging benefits, including: 1) early identification and treatment of symptomatic behaviors; 2) appropriate referrals and consistent follow-up for challenges requiring more intensive intervention; 3) development of individualized learning plans to promote cognitive and social growth; 4) focused outreach and direct support for parents or caregivers, including home visits and regular progress reviews; and 5) the creation of a classroom environment that provides a safe and consistent therapeutic milieu, promotes tolerance and diversity, and highlights the importance of peer support.

In addition to the intensive on-site activities, all participating families receive home visits from the Conjunto teachers several times during the school year to review their child’s goals and progress.  Other disciplines such as social work and clinical counseling are involved in providing more intensive intervention if the family desires additional supports.
