The STAR program offers trauma-informed, culturally appropriate services to refugees, asylees, and other newcomers in New Mexico. Designed to promote healing, STAR focuses on holistic, community-integrated care, dedicated to helping individuals and families recover and rebuild their lives with the help of a supportive community.

THE REALITY

Since the 1960s, New Mexico has welcomed thousands of refugees from over 30 countries affected by war, conflict, and displacement. Trauma, often linked to pre-migration and post-migration experiences, deeply affects a person's well-being. STAR works to address the physical, emotional, and psychological impacts of this trauma to support newcomers' long-term health.

Our Services

The STAR program provides free mental health services, case management, and community-based support, with an approach that ensures deeply culturally attuned care.

Individual, family, and group therapies that incorporate traditional healing practices.

Provided by Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ensure care in clients' homes and communities.

Who is Eligible?

The STAR program is here to help refugees, asylees, and other newcomers who have experienced trauma and need support.

If an individual has been in the U.S. for five years or less, and their past experiences are making it hard to adjust to life at home, work, or school, they may qualify for our services.

We’re committed to helping newcomers heal, rebuild, and thrive in their new community.
