Chipping away at a crisis: Health plan commits cash for expectant moms

Astrid Delgadillo and her family, after leaving Honduras and spending over a year in Mexico, arrived in the U.S. and settled in a Santa Fe shelter. Pregnant and without her mother’s support, Delgadillo struggled to attend doctor’s appointments until she connected with Las Cumbres Community Services’ ¡Que Cute! Healthy Baby Program, which provided crucial help in finding sustainable transportation. The program, now expanding with a $25,000 investment from Presbyterian Health Plan, supports expectant and new mothers in Northern New Mexico through services like transportation, food assistance, and prenatal care. This initiative addresses the maternal health crisis in the region, offering vital support to women like Delgadillo, whose family has since stabilized with her husband finding work and their children accessing education and home visiting services.
