“The results of philanthropy are always beyond calculation” states Mary Ritter Beard, American historian and a lifelong advocate of social justice.
Las Cumbres is grateful to recognize Robert T. Keeler Foundation as a philanthropic partner and friend. The Foundation’s contributions have provided direct and significant security for families in service with Las Cumbres in Taos County.
A recent renewal of funding will be distributed across three programs. Two awards will be utilized to provide Family Navigation services, as well as access for families to incidental emergency funds on a discretionary basis. A third grant will be dedicated to the agency’s Santuario del Corazón (Heart Sanctuary) Program, offering intensive wraparound services to immigrant families and their children. The availability of emergency discretionary funds makes possible the purchase, for example, of cribs and car seats, high chairs, and strollers for families who might not otherwise have access to these new furnishings.
With the onset of COVID-19 pandemic shelter-in-place and other restrictive considerations, these funds will be even more important to also assist those who find themselves without work, access to nutritious food, or other supplies such as diapers and other items for client families’ children. Similarly, Navigation services for families will include ongoing Telehealth availability and distribution of concrete supplies, distribution of health education pamphlets, and other resource materials or direction. While it may be nearly impossible to calculate precisely what such generosity will mean to families and their children, the availability of these foundation-building assets will create an important “safety net” to provide protection against the harmful effects of economic insecurity.
