Las Cumbres Child and Family Services are expanding in Los Alamos County to support caregiving relationships and build nurturing connections for families with young children. Thanks to a recent contract award from Los Alamos County, Las Cumbres will provide expanded developmental and behavioral health supports free of charge to the community. Parenting program facilitators, early intervention therapists, and specialists, and mental health clinicians will begin providing these services beginning in March of 2021.
Services starting in March will begin with virtual groups and workshops, provided through Zoom to ensure easy and safe access for participants from the comfort of their home or workplace. Parents, professionals, and others interested in the topics are welcome to attend. These free community supports are designed to help families understand and address child development, parenting, and behavioral/mental health concerns.
“Ask the Specialist Series” will be offered on the second and fourth Fridays of each month, starting March 12 and 26, from 10-11 am. Licensed professionals will present videos, discuss developmental milestones and parenting strategies, and respond to questions from participants. Physical, Occupational, and Speech and Language therapists, Developmental specialists, and Infant and early childhood clinicians will present on topics and answer questions in a responsive and non-judgmental environment.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills groups will be offered every Thursday from 1-2 pm, starting March 4. Participants will learn core skills to tolerate and reduce stress, manage difficult emotions, and improve relationships.
Additional services are in the planning stages, including a Fatherhood Group and Drop-In “Clinics” for more advanced and interactive supports to start in May. Refer to the agency website News and Events page for a calendar of all virtual groups and workshops.
