Thanks to a recent grant award from the Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative (RALI) - New Mexico, Rio Arriba moms-to-be now have access to more services through Las Cumbres’ ¡Que Cute! Healthy Baby Program. ¡Que Cute! Family Navigators will assist pregnant and soon-to-be mothers to understand their needs and to develop a plan as expecting mothers, prioritizing safety, stability, and other high-risk factors that can potentially impact an otherwise stable pregnancy and birth of a healthy baby. ¡Que Cute! staff receive specialized training in evidence-based parenting curriculum including lactation consultation, and other skills. Funding from RALI New Mexico, is furthering expansion of this program into Rio Arriba County.
“It was a pleasure to highlight and celebrate our partnership with Las Cumbres Community Services.” said Debbie Maestas-Traynor, RALI-NM State Coordinator. “RALI NM recognizes the heartfelt commitment all of you (Las Cumbres) have made to this community. Your forty years of service in Española is a testament to your genuine concern and involvement with children, adults and families.”
Maestas-Traynor continues, “Your "Que Cute" initiative aligns perfectly with our focus on combating substance misuse and addiction. As stated on your website…”Las Cumbres is working for a world where every person connects and thrives in their community” … Las Cumbres Community Services does represent their words with action! Thank you for what you do.”
“The need in Rio Arriba is high and we are looking forward to be there for moms who feel afraid, ashamed, isolated, or feeling the stigma of drug use.” said Ana Morelos, ¡Que Cute! Family Navigator. “In our prevention work, we have can assist mothers and give the child the opportunity to have a better life.”
¡Que Cute! Healthy Baby’s goal is to partner navigators with women throughout their pregnancy to improve maternal and child health and to reduce poor birth outcomes.
