Graduation/End-of-Year Celebration was different this year. We were able to reserve an area at the Ohkay Owingeh tribal lakes on May 24th and 25th. The four-year-olds and their families gathered for the celebration. Although the weather was cold and windy the families enjoyed seeing their little ones complete the preschool milestone. After the children received their certificates and gifts some families stayed to picnic along the lake, and others took a stroll, observed nature, and put their bug-catching kits to use. The bug-catching kits were a gift from the program purchased through generous donations from the public including from primary donor, Coleman Vision in Albuquerque. The 3-year-olds celebrated on May 25th, and luckily the weather was much nicer; sunny with a calm, cool breeze. Because the weather was so nice, several families decided to stay and fish after the kiddos received their certificates. Most of these little ones will be returning to Conjunto next school year for the 4-year-old classes.
Conjunto Director Reflects On The Conclusion of School Year
I always say at the end of every school year, the end-of-year celebrations are always bitter-sweet. Each year is different. We meet new families, we overcome hardships and challenges, and we see the great progress that the children have made while in our care. This year’s celebration was especially special because we were able to have all families come together to celebrate the children and the next exciting chapter in their education that awaits them.
During my speech to the children and their families, I became emotional as I expressed my many thanks to them for allowing us to work with their children and be a part of their lives. We’ve come to know so much about these children and I know that their teachers next year will recognize and appreciate that each student is unique and has different learning styles. We’ve made so many precious memories with them that it is inevitable that they will always hold a special place in our hearts
